Akon- "Sorry Blame it on me"
Sorry, Blame It On Me prod. by Clinton Sparks
Aliaune Thiam aka "Akon" was born in the U.S, although he grew up in Senegal, West Africa until he was 7 years old. Akon is an American-Senegalese Singer who has a lot of powerful and moving lyrics. "Sorry, Blame it on me" is a song from one of three albums he has released throughout his career. Even though Akon grew up in a tightly knitted family, with his Father being a Jazz Percussionist and Mother a Dancer he went down the wrong path. He has made mistakes and like us all has regrets, but is now trying to admit to his wrong doings. This song clearly states that we all have poor judgment, and we need to own up to our faults.
The major argument in this song is the Artist taking blame for his past as well as things that are not his fault. He repeatedly says "I'm Sorry" "I'm sorry for the wrong things that I've done" and how he wants to start taking responsibility for his own actions. Akon was incarcerated for three years for being involved in a "Car Theft Ring". The Singer is realizing that everything he does has repercussions on the people around him.
Aliaune Thiam aka "Akon" also states in the song that a young girl underage was let into a 21 and older club. He was criticized for inappropriate sexual behavior while they were dancing on stage. How was he to know that she was under 21? The club did indeed get shut down because the girl was by-passed during identification checks, but the media still "put the blame" on him. She was only 15, and that is another reason he is arguing with the owners and whomever else that should have been held accountable. Akon is very dedicated to his family and fans therefor was willing to "take that blame".
In verse 2 "I'm sorry for all the things that he put you through, and all the times you didn't know what to do" the Singer is talking about putting his Mother through a lot of heartache. Whilst his Father was seeing another woman, and she had to deal with it all at once. Akon refers to his Father as treating him and his family like "Kings". Although they were financially stable, he wishes he would have stuck beside her and became the man she wanted him to be. We all come to realization with our poor judgement, and I believe the incident with the young girl really woke him up.
