Young Thug is this weird fiery ball rapper from Atlanta Georgia. His style has an island feel mixed with an urban flare. His style is eccentric and intense. He makes multiple club bangers that are really catchy and head bobbing worthy. However, Pitchfork's Corbin Goble thinks less than that.
He felt that Young Thug didn't achieve what he was actually going for. He said that it was slurry brilliance that makes you want to smash your head in a cylinder. A little harsh I think. I think Goble just doesn't understand where he comes from. Multiple people have confirmed that Young Thug speaks in a certain slang that only people from his side of town understands so the common person wouldn't understand. His beats are dance worthy and his hooks are easy to learn. I must admit some of his lyrics are hard to understand but the songs are still effective.
Goble also stated, that most of his songs don't stick. I disagree Young Thug's songs always lingers in someone's mind. The song "Stoner" and "Danny Glover" clearly contradicts his statement. Young Thug even caught the attention of Hip Hop Icon Nicki Minaj. She offered to do a remix to his song "Danny Glover". At first he was just a local artist to Atlanta residents but because of Nicki Minaj's feature even more people are caught by Young Thug's crazy style.
Even Goble thinks that some of his songs are memorable but of course he did have to add "when he gets it right". I feel like its hard for most people to give Young Thug his credit he did help create a whole new southern style for hip hop. It might be hard to understand but once you get the hang of him its really awesome and a must have for every party!
But a wise man did state your "If you don't have haters your just not doing it right". Goble can be added to that list he stated that one of his mix tapes falls flat. I of course differ. There is nothing flat about his mix tape. Young Thug has made all of his songs different with his own style of "singing". Im still not sure what it is, but what ever it is works and will have you wanting more. Just know that Young Thug will have more tricks up his sleeve and definitely more club bangers to come.
